Introduction to Sub-Divisional Modelling

So far you've been using NURBS modelling to design your jewellery and you've probably come to the realisation that it's a little difficult to achieve more organic looking designs. That's why JDMIS also introduces you to a plugin called Clayoo! Clayoo is a sub divisional (Sub-D) modelling tool and with it you can produce complex single surfaces with high degrees of continuity. Most importantly, these surfaces remain easily editable! Unlike their NURBS counterparts.

Understanding basic Sub-D Shapes, builders and how to manipulate vertices, edges and faces, now you can start to create and connect Sub-D elements, using box-mode modelling, bridges and welds.

MatrixGold provides some basic mesh-sculpting tools that can be used to quickly produce detailed elements for jewellery parts or to apply smoothing or sculpting your existing NURBS or Sub-D Designs converted to Meshes. Learn to apply mesh textures to surfaces, how to emboss and deboss using curves and how to sculpt directly onto mesh surfaces.

Have you ever wondered if you could design with unique gemstones? What about when a customer brings uniquely shaped gemstone? Learn to modify your STL files by using retopology; learn how to add metal flow channels used for casting, create multiple automatic ring-size variation STLs without affecting set-gemstones and other advanced topics to help you better prepare 3D models for output and casting.

    Uniquely, JDMIS has all of its CAD Lab configured for remote access - students are given login-credentials to allow them to remotely operate JDMIS' sophisticated equipment and specialised software throughout the duration of their training and project work.

    For those that want to install their own software for use off-line, JDMIS works with GemVision to obtain affordable student-licences of this professional software.
