Develop skills in the latest technologies in jewellery design using industry-leading computer aided jewellery design software by Gemvision. Design highly accurate 3D models that include gemstones and findings, then render these designs in photo-realistic quality as 2D images, videos or interactive programs. 1. Introduction to Gemvision Matrix 9
Software tools and interfaces are introduced together with key concepts and best practises that will lead to a smooth design process.
2. Building Simple Jewellery Designs
Using a series of simple projects, learn about ring design and practise placing a setting gemstones using bezels and heads. Understand basic manipulations and how these concepts can be applied to pendants, earrings and other types of jewellery.
3. Curves, Surfaces and Solids
To unleash the creative potential of any design tool, you need to break free of libraries and ?built-in? shapes. Learn how to create and manipulate curves, create surfaces & solids. Trace curves over scanned paper sketches. Understand solid modelling concepts and use them to create unique shapes and designs.
4. Setting Styles and Repeating Shapes
Combine modelling techniques for greater flexibility while learning new ways to place gems and set them in jewellery.
5. Rendering with V-Ray
Produce photo-realistic rendering using industry leading rendering software, learn tips for producing stunning, true-to-life renders by incorporating HDR environments. Create rendered videos for clients and interactive tools for demonstrating design concepts.
Tools and materials
Uniquely, JDMIS has all of its CAD Lab configured for remote access - students are given login-credentials to allow them to remotely operate JDMIS' sophisticated equipment and specialised software throughout the duration of their training and project work..
For those that want to install their own software for use off-line, JDMIS works with GemVision to obtain affordable student-licences of this professional software. Industry users ready to adopt these new tools can also avail of volume discounts afforded JDMIS students from regional software and equipment resellers.
This course offers a design experience. At the end of the workshop, participants will have designed their own jewellery.
