We ask that jewellery programmes — including those offered by JDMIS — be included in a jewellery skills framework, enabling proper government support for the development of the industry and its workforce. 2. We support the re-establishment of a modular, stackable pathway for jewellery training - through a pilot or through any other mechanism agreeable to SWDA. As an employer, we could not justify the time, budget, or upfront commitment required to send employees for a full diploma. Modular delivery is how workforce training actually happens, and losing it would leave our sector with only long-duration, high-cost diplomas or short courses without oversight or learner pathway. There are currently no jewellery-specific programmes supported for corporate training, and none that support independent learners’ ongoing learning and career progression in the trade. Previous Category B funding excluded the use of SkillsFuture Enterprise Credits, limiting employer access. JDMIS is the only registered private education institution to specifically serve our industry, offering professional-depth qualifications in gemmology, jewellery design methodology, the full range of fabrication techniques, and jewellery business practice. Other specialised industry providers are not registered PEIs/TPs and existing PEI short appreciation courses elsewhere are not equivalent to specialised industry training. We support the modular structure such as that operated by JDMIS - it is relevant to jewellery companies (allowing selection of specific skills for upgrading) and to learners (keeping staff training relevant and valuable to their overall career development).
